Hey everyone! So, recently I got hired for my first job and I wanted to share the process of finding a job. If you are a teen like me and you’re looking for a job then this is for you!
1. Create a Resume
Creating a résumé is a very important step to getting a job. I created my résumé in class and it was fairly simple. If you have little to no experience like me then write things like clubs you are in, achievements, awards, leadership positions, volunteer work, grades, and skills such as time management skills, teamwork skills, and Microsoft Word (This is considered a skill because it is software). Make sure to have a parent or someone you know proofread and review your résumé. Below, I have left some examples of resumes I used when creating my résumé.

2. Create an account for job sites
Using job sites such as Indeed, Snagajob, Monster, and even LinkedIn ( Yes, even LinkedIn) can help increase your chances of finding a job. Personally, using Indeed helped me find a job.
3. Figure Out What Type of Job You Want
As a person entering the workforce for the first time, you're limited due to your lack of experience. Applying to entry-level jobs such as chick-fil-a or forever 21 are great places to start.
4. Start Applying to Jobs
This is the fun part (at least to me)! Applying to jobs is very easy when using job sites but make sure you include your résumé as well when applying to jobs. I would recommend applying to at least 3-5 jobs.
5. Interview Prep: Interview Questions and Knowing What to Expect
When I had a job interview, I would ask myself general interview questions and record my responses. I did this to see what I needed to add or take out and just to practice. I would also find questions for that particular job for example Chick-Fil-A has different questions (Below) than most places so I would practice typical questions asked at a Chick-Fil-A interview. Indeed is a great place to find particular interview questions based on the job, interview process, and more info about the job. Another thing to do is watch job interview prep videos this has helped with the nervousness of a job interview and making you aware of what to expect. Below there are some great job interview videos I recommend.
6. Go to the interview!
Get on your best job interview outfit (I have put some examples below) and rock it!!
7. Always email employer after job interview
Within 24 hours after your interview always email the employer thanking them for the opportunity for an interview and considering you as a candidate. Not only does it make you stand out, but it also shows you are serious about getting the job. I have left a blog post below I recommend that helps with writing the perfect thank you email.
8. Congrats! you got the job...
I’m so happy for you and I wish you the best at your first job. If you didn’t get the job, that is ok. I got rejected a few times before getting a job. Just keep applying to jobs, keep going to interviews, and trust yourself. You’ll get the job, lovely!
I hope this helps you on your path to finding your first job. This can be a boring, fun, and long process but in the end, it’s worth it. You are getting money or as my dad puts it skriller???
( I have no idea how to spell that. LMAO). Anyways. Thanks for reading and start applying to those jobs. See you next week! Bye, everyone!
